The General Plan Update program includes an update of the 2005 Housing Element. California planning law requires the County to update the Housing Element by July 2009.
The update of the Housing Element will occur in conjunction with the General Plan Update. Meeting schedules and opportunities for public input and related documents on the Housing Element will be made available on this website.
On January 12, 2010, the Board of Supervisors adopted the revised Housing Element.
The Community Development Department will hold public hearings with the Planning Commission on December 3, 2009, and the Board of Supervisors on January 12, 2010, to adopt the revised Housing Element.
On October 15, 2009, the San Joaquin County Community Development Department received a letter of conditional approval from California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). The letter states that the revised Housing Element addresses the statutory requirements of State housing element law. Once the Housing Element is adopted and submitted to HCD it will be in full compliance with State law.
On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, the Community Development Department and the County's Housing Element Consultants (Mintier Harnish) presented the Public Review Draft Housing Element to the Board of Supervisors.
On Monday, February 23rd, 2009, the San Joaquin County Community Development Department held the second and final stakeholder workshop for the Housing Element Update. The County's Housing Element Consultants presented a summary of the proposed policies and programs that will guide the development of housing in San Joaquin County. After the presentation, County staff asked local housing stakeholders and the public to comment on the policy/program strategies contained in the Policy Document.
