Planning Commission Study Session
The date for the next Planning Commission General Plan Update Study Session will be announced soon. At the next study session the Planning Commission will be asked to take action on providing a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors on a preferred growth alternative.

The date for the next Board of Supervisors General Plan Update Study Session will occur after the Planning Commission makes a recommendation on a preferred growth alternative. Check back soon for the meeting date.

Board of Supervisors Study Session
On May 24, 2011, the Board of Supervisors held a study session to review Focus Group, Community Workshop, and Planning Commission input on the Alternatives. At the study session, County staff and the General Plan Update Consultants presented summaries of the Focus Group meetings and the Community Workshops. Following the presentation, the Board members discussed the Alternatives and took comments from the public. This was an informational study session and the Board of Supervisors did not take any action on the General Plan.
On May 5, 2011, the Planning Commission held a study session to review Focus Group and Community Workshop input on the Alternatives. At the study session, County staff and the General Plan Update Consultants presented preliminary summaries of the Focus Group meetings and the Community Workshops. Following the presentation the Planning Commission took comments from the public. This was an informational study session and the Planning Commission was not asked to take any action.
In March, April, and May 2011 San Joaquin County hosted the third series of 14 community workshops on the General Plan Update. The workshops focused on gathering community feedback on the alternative growth scenarios outlined in the Alternatives Report and summarized in Newsletter #3. Each workshop began with a presentation by the General Plan Update consultants, Mintier Harnish, who provided an overview of the General Plan update process and described the four growth alternatives that were released for public review in March 2011. Following the presentation, workshop attendees participated in interactive exercises designed to solicit feedback on the growth alternatives.
On March 29th and 31st, 2011, the County held the second round of Focus Group meetings to discuss the General Plan Update Alternatives Report. Each meeting began with a greeting from County staff, followed by a short overview presentation by Mintier Harnish, the General Plan Update consultant. The consultants presented the status of the Update process and the purpose of the Alternatives process. Focus Group members then explored, in an open discussion, different growth options and implications and preferences for how the County should grow and develop in the future. The meetings were open for public observation and several community members also provided comments.
On March 15, 2011, the Board of Supervisors held a study session on the General Plan Update Alternatives Report. At the study session, County staff and the General Plan Update Consultants presented the Alternatives Report, lead a discussion on the purpose and contents of the Alternatives Report, and outlined the next steps in the Alternatives Phase of the General Plan Update. This was an informational study session and the Board of Supervisors was not asked to take action on the Alternatives Report.
On March 3, 2011, the Planning Commission held a study session on the General Plan Update Alternatives Report. At the study session, County staff and the General Plan Update Consultants presented the Alternatives Report and its purpose and contents and outlined the next steps of the Alternatives Phase of the General Plan Update.
On January 12, 2010, the Board of Supervisors held a hearing on the Housing Element and a Study Session on the draft Vision and Guiding Principles. Following a presentation by County staff, the Board of Supervisors adopted the San Joaquin County Housing Element. Following the hearing, the Board of Supervisors accepted the Vision and Guiding Principles, with modifications, to guide the remainder of the General Plan Update and future planning decisions. The Vision and Guiding Principles will remain a draft until adoption of the General Plan. Check back soon for the draft Vision and Guiding Principles that reflects the Board of Supervisors direction. Planning Commission Hearing
On December 3, 2009, at 6:30pm the Planning Commission adopted the revised San Joaquin County Housing Element.
Board of Supervisors Study Session
On November 24, 2009, at 1:30pm the Board of Supervisors met to review the results of the second round of Community Workshops and the Planning Commission recommendations on the Draft Vision and Guiding Principles. The Board discussed the draft Vision and Guiding Principles and continued the meeting to January 2010.
Planning Commission Study Session #2 (continued)
On November 19, 2009, the Planning Commission continued their discussion on the Draft Vision and Guiding Principles and took additional public input. The Commission will then made a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors to accept the Draft Vision and Guiding Principles as amended.
Planning Commission Study Session #2
On October 15, 2009, the Planning Commission met to review the results of the second round of Community Workshops and the Draft Vision and Guiding Principles. The Planning Commission discussed, provided further input, and took public input on the draft Vision and Guiding Principles. The Commission decided to continue the discussion till November 5, 2009, when they will provide a recommendation on the Vision & Guiding Principles to the Board of Supervisors.
In August and September 2009, the County held a series of 14 community workshops throughout the county to gather community input on a Vision of San Joaquin County in 2030 and Guiding Principles for future decisions. Thanks to all Community Workshop #2 participants for helping to define what the County will strive to be in 2030!
On August 6, 2009, a Planning Commission meeting was held on the General Plan Update. The meeting included a greeting from County staff, followed by a presentation by Mintier Harnish, the General Plan Update consultant. The consultant presented an update on the General Plan Update process, followed by an overview of the Public Review Draft Issues and Opportunities Report. The consultant also provided an overview of the second round of Community Workshops, held throughout the County in August and September. The Planning Commission discussed and provided input on the topics presented in the Public Review Draft Issues and Opportunities Report and took public comment on the items presented.
On May 28 and June 3, 2009, the first of four sets of Focus Group meetings for the San Joaquin County General Plan Update took place. Each meeting began with a greeting from County staff, followed by a short overview presentation by Mintier Harnish, the General Plan Update consultant. The consultants presented an overview of the Update process and the role of the Focus Groups members. Focus Group members then explored, in an open discussion, the issues and opportunities that the General Plan Update should address and be included in the Issues and Opportunities Report. On Tuesday, March 24, 2009, the Community Development Department and the County's Housing Element Consultants (Mintier Harnish) presented the Public Review Draft Housing Element to the Board of Supervisors.
Board of Supervisors/Planning Commission Joint Study Session
On February 24, 2009, the County held a joint study session with the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission to kick-off the General Plan Update process and review major emerging issues in the County.
On Monday, February 23, 2009, the San Joaquin County Community Development Department held the second and final stakeholder workshop for the Housing Element Update. The County's Housing Element Consultants presented a summary of the proposed policies and programs that will guide the development of housing in San Joaquin County. After the presentation, County staff asked local housing stakeholders and the public to comment on the policy/program strategies contained in the Policy Document.
